My eyes search your reflection
But they do not find you
A vacant look has replaced one once filled with wonder
An empty smile devoid of life
Almost makes me think I’ve lost you
But
The human body is one full of wonders
Of mysteries that may never unfold
And when you look at me
I can see the universe again
And when I think of losing you
My chest tightens and the dams break and all of the water contained in my body flows through my eyes
Grief is strange that way
As if only the brink of death can bring you the appreciation of life
Life after death
