― Ralph Waldo Emerson

The mission of the Rainforest Foundation is to support indigenous and traditional peoples of the world’s rainforests in their efforts to protect their environment and fulfill their rights by assisting them in:

  • Securing and controlling the natural resources necessary for their long term well being and managing these resources in ways which do not harm their environment, violate their culture or compromise their future; and
  • Developing the means to protect their individual and collective rights and to obtain, shape and control basic services from the state.

Coalition for rainforest nations

The Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN or the ‘Coalition) assists tropical governments, communities and peoples responsibly manage their rainforests. Healthy rainforests protect against a changing climate, generate needed biodiversity and provide safe habitats.

Launched by Coalition members in 2005,  the United Nation’s REDD+ Mechanism, designed to incentivize conservation and contribute to the battle against climate change, now includes around 90% of the world’s remaining rainforests. A first in human history!

FROM VOX: “It’s an intergovernmental organization of over 50 rainforest nations around the world, from Ecuador to Bangladesh to Fiji. It was formed after Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Michael Somare gave a speech in 2005, and since then it’s been partnering directly with governments and communities to protect their rainforests.”

By inspiring and engaging individuals and communities, the Human Rights Campaign strives to end discrimination against LGBTQ people and realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all. HRC envisions a world where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people are ensured equality and embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.

One in five households in Louisiana is at risk of hunger. Across our state and region, the rising cost of food, housing, and utilities, coupled with high unemployment and low-wage jobs have increased the need for emergency food assistance. Many families are asking for help for the first time. When bills loom and impossible decisions must be made, grocery lists are often cut first. Meals are skipped. Parents go without to make sure their children are fed. Second Harvest Food Bank leads the fight against hunger in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response. Second Harvest provides food and support to 700+ community partners and programs across 23 parishes. Our staff and volunteers distribute the equivalent of more than 32 million meals to 210,000+ people a year.

Second Harvest Food Bank is driven to close the gap of unmet need in Central Florida in a variety of effective ways. Our mission is to create hope and nourish lives through a powerful hunger relief network, while multiplying the generosity of a caring community. Learn how we Feed, Empower, Nourish and Engage the community to help end hunger.

Fostering Hope Florida is partnering with the community to create a compassionate system of foster care that honors and protects the rights of children.
Join us in finding solutions.
Here are some of the things we’re working on:

  • Keeping siblings together – Many children only get to see their brothers and sisters during scheduled visitations
  • Preventing placement disruptions – Often children in foster care move from home to home, some live in 20+ different places
  • Raising children in families – Due to the shortage of foster parents, many foster children are growing up in facilities instead of homes
  • Aging out foster youth – Many foster young adults age out of the foster care system with no support or mentors in their lives, leaving them up to their own devices. This lack of a support system leads to high rates of drug addiction, homelessness and incarceration.
  • Recruiting and retaining foster parents

Many foster children come from troubled homes and we work hard to offer foster parents the support they need to help these children. We strive to keep siblings together in one family – something that is vitally important to their development. Additionally, we provide services to children as they transition out of the system.
